Come Holy Ghost

SEQUENCE.
O Divine Paraclete, Who proceedest equally from the Father and the Son! with Thy glowing fire, give eloquence to our tongues, and make our hearts fervent in their love for Thee.

L ove of the Father and Son! equal and co-equal with them in essence! Thou fillest and fosterest all things: and moves, though in Thyself immoveable, Thou governest the stars, and givest motion to the heavens.

L ight most dear and bright! Thou puttest to flight the gloom of our soul's darkness. 'Tis Thou that purifiest the pure, and takest away sin and its rust.

Thou teachest us the truth; Thou showest us the way of peace and the path of justice. Thou shunnest the hearts of perverse sinners; Thou enrichest the hearts of the good with the gift of knowledge.

With Thee as teacher, there is no obscurity; when Thou art present, there is no impurity. The soul that possesses Thee, is cheerful; and her conscience is joyful and pure.

Thou changest the elements; by Thee have the Sacraments their efficacy; Thou drivest away all evil power; Thou bringest to nought the wickedness of our enemies.

When Thou comest to us, our hearts are soothed; when Thou enterest, dark clouds are put to flight. O sacred Fire! when Thou visitest us, Thou inflamest our souls; not burning them, but purging them from the dross of care.

Thou givest wisdom and fervour to souls that once were ignorant and drowsy and heedless. Thou inspirest the tongue, Thou formest its speech; and the charity Thou givest, makes the heart prompt to all that is good.

O helper of them that are heavily laden! O Comforter of the afflicted! O refuge of the poor! give us a contempt for earthly things, and draw our affections to the love of what is heavenly.

Consoler and Creator, and Guest, and Lover of humble souls! drive all evil from us, cleanse our sins, bring concord where now is discord, and support us by Thy protection.

O thou that heretofore didst visit, teach and strengthen the timid Disciples, deign to visit us; vouchsafe to console us and the faithful throughout the world.

Equal is the majesty, equal the power, and one the divinity, of the Three Persons. Thou proceedest from the Father and the Son, and art co-equal in all things with Them.

Being, therefore, infinite in all perfections as is the Father, accept from us thy poor servants the praise that is due to Thee, equally with the Father and the Son. Amen.

Act of Oblation to the Holy Ghost

Act of Oblation to the Holy Ghost:

On my knees, before the great cloud of witnesses, I offer myself, soul and body, to Thee, Eternal Spirit of God. I adore the brightness of Thy purity; the unerring keenness of Thy justice, and the might of Thy love. Thou art the strength and the light of my soul. In Thee I live, and move, and am. I desire never to grieve Thee by unfaithfulness to grace; and I pray with all my heart to be kept free from the smallest sin against Thee. Make me faithful in every thought; and grant that I may always listen to Thy voice, and watch for Thy light, and follow Thy gracious inspirations. I cling to Thee, and give myself to Thee, and ask Thee by Thy compassion to watch over me in my weakness. Holding the pierced feet of Jesus, and looking at His Five Wounds, and trusting to His Precious Blood, and adoring His opened side and stricken Heart, I implore Thee, Adorable Spirit, Helper of my infirmity, so to keep me in Thy grace that I may never become obstinate in sin. Give me grace, O Holy Ghost, Spirit of the Father, and the Son, to say to Thee, always and everywhere, Speak, Lord, for Thy servant heareth. Amen.

Prayer for the Grace of the Holy Ghost
Come, Holy Ghost, Sanctifier all powerful, God of love, Thou Who didst fill the Virgin Mary with grace, Thou Who didst wonderfully transform the hearts of the Apostles, Thou Who didst endow all Thy martyrs with a miraculous heroism, come and sanctify us. Illumine our minds, strengthen our wills, purify our consciences, rectify our judgments, set our hearts on fire, and preserve us from the misfortune of resisting Thine inspirations. Amen.

Consecration to the Holy Ghost

O Holy Spirit, divine Spirit of light and love, I consecrate to Thee my understanding, my heart and my will, my whole being for time and for eternity. May my understanding be always submissive to Thy heavenly inspirations and to the teachings of the holy Catholic Church, of which Thou art the infallible Guide; may my heart be ever inflamed with love of God and of my neighbor; may my will be ever conformed to the divine will, and may my whole life be a faithful imitation of the life and virtues of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to Whom with the Father and Thee be honor and glory forever. Amen.

Apostate and schismatic gay activists Ewald Volgger and Franz Lackner promote the practice of sodomy in Austria. This schismatic sect in full communion with Bergoglio commits the Sin of Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by giving heed to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons.

Austrian Bishops Work On Official "Blessing" Of Homosexuals

en.news Salzburg Archbishop Franz Lackner, the head of the Austrian Bishops' liturgical commission, tasked the liturgist Father Ewald Volgger to write a “Benediction of Same Sex Partnerships.”

Volgger told Linz Diocese's Kirchenzeitung.at (April 28) that the Church should make up a formal "blessing" of homosexuals “as soon as possible."

He asked for falsifying the Catechism of the Catholic Church by eliminating the factual statement that homosexuality is intrinsically disordered so that his “official liturgy” for homosexuals would be based on "Church doctrine.”

According to Volgger there is a "considerable number" of bishops who wish to "re-evaluate" [gravely sinful] same-sex partnerships, i.e. drop the biblical teaching.

In Austria, gay weddings in Catholic Churches are commonplace.

Saint Paul explicitly says that the bishops must not "lord it over your faith" (2 Cor 1:24).

Cardinal Pell: “Communion for the divorced and remarried is for some – very few, certainly not the majority of synod fathers – it’s only the tip of the iceberg, it’s a stalking horse. They want wider changes, recognition of civil unions, recognition of homosexual unions”

2 Timothy 4:3-4

For the time is coming when people will not put up with sound doctrine, but having itching ears, they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own desires, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander away to myths.

Galatians 1 As we have said before, so now I repeat, if anyone proclaims to you a gospel contrary to what you received, let that one be accursed!

Hebrews 6:4-6

For it is impossible to restore again to repentance those who have once been enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, since on their own they are crucifying again the Son of God and are holding him up to contempt.

Within the Sins against the Holy Spirit are presumption, obstinacy, resisting Truth and The final impenitence.

Dad posts videos teaching basic tasks. Fatherless viewers’ responses are heartbreaking

May 26, 2020 (Intellectual Takeout) — A recent post on Imgur caught my eye for its startling glimpse into the true state of American families.
Seeking to be a help to others, a young man posted a link to his father’s new YouTube channel titled “Dad, how do I?” The channel was born out of firsthand experience of growing up without a father present to teach vital life skills. Among other things, this channel features a father of two grown children demonstrating how to change a tireiron a shirt, and fix a leaking toilet.

The videos clearly fill a void. Within hours of posting the link on Imgur, the channel more than doubled its subscriber base. It is approaching 1 million subscribers as of this writing. [LifeSite editor’s note: As of Tuesday evening, May 26, the channel is approaching 2 million subscribers.] Comments on the post demonstrate both sarcasm and a secret longing, with some suggesting new topic ideas and others expressing their need for a father figure and his wisdom.

Overwhelmed by the outpouring of need and enthusiasm for his advice, the father produced a thank you video, expressing a genuine humility in his parenting skills, but an earnest desire to help others.
Please understand that I didn’t always do everything right with my kids. We were quick to reconcile if I failed, because you’re going to fail as a dad! It’s part of the human experience, you aren’t going to always do things right, so I think it’s very important to ask for forgiveness and not pretend that you’ve got it all figured out because your kids are going to find out sooner or later that you don’t have it figured out when they grow up.
Again, responses to the video were heartbreaking, including this comment:
My father left when I was 6 and have not heard from him sence [sic]. My mother does not help at all. I feel like this [is] an essence of my father, and I almost started crying... Thank you for being the dad I never had. Thank you for being the light in my dark and broken world. Keep it up.
America is a nation full of lost, lonely, and adrift young adults, many of whom are craving the love, support, and interest of the father they never had. Their voices echo the pain expressed in Whittaker Chambers’ Witness as he relates how his own father was often absent, and was unsupportive even when he was around. Chambers admits to loving his father, but the turmoil his inconsistency caused in their home left a void. Perhaps it’s not surprising then that Chambers went on to engage in aggressive political action, eventually becoming a Communist spy. Chambers eventually reconsidered his ways and became a hard-working, honest American, but it took many years and difficult experiences before he got there.

Consider, however, another young boy trained to be an honest, hard-working American from his earliest days. As told in the story Little Britches, Ralph Moody lost his father at age 11 and had to become the man of the family, helping his mother raise and support their crew of six members. Though young, Moody was up to the task because of the love, character, and work ethic his father had instilled in him.
Lacking the strong father Moody had, young Americans today are headed down the path that Chambers took. Dealing with father loss and the uncertainty which it brings, they are forging ahead, seeking answers and ideologies upon which to hang their hat. Never have we so badly needed men to stand up and humbly say, like the aforementioned father with the YouTube channel, “Hey, I’m not perfect, but I’m here to help you in the ways that I can.”
Fathers, and men in general, have been much maligned in recent decades as imbeciles who can’t do anything right. But even as they’re maligned, there seems to be a deep sense that fathers are greatly needed.

Is it time we stop badmouthing fathers and instead step up to support them? If we can have great leaders today in the smallest unit of society — the family — then perhaps the next generation will grow up to fill the void of great leadership in the nation at large.

Bergoglio's anti-doctrine contradicts Saint Bede Venerable — Historian and a Doctor of the Church

As Cardinal Newman said that to be deep in history is to cease to be a Protestant, likewise all those who discover how Bergoglio contradicts the doctors, popes and saints of our Catholic Church, if they wish to remain Catholic they are compelled to abandon the Bergoglian heresy.

Benedictine monk, priest, historian, Doctor of the Church
Father of English History.
In 1899, Pope Leo XIII declared him a Doctor of the Church.

Saint Bede the Venerable

…judges Francis’ attitude towards public sinners, changing Vatican protocol

  • Loathing his dishonest gains the publican receives the blessing of his Lord’s company

See here, the camel disencumbered of his hunch passes through the eye of a needle, that is, the rich man and the publican abandoning his love of riches, and loathing his dishonest gains, receives the blessing of his Lord’s company. It follows, and he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. (Saint Bede the Venerable quoted by Saint Thomas Aquinas. Catena Aurea on Lk 19:1-10)

…judges Francis’ idea on the Church’s moral teaching

  • The Lord reproves those who wrongly interpreted the Sabbath rest: the law commands to abstain from servile works, i.e. from evil, on the Sabbath.

But the Lord anticipating the false charge which they were preparing against Him, reproves those who by wrongly interpreting the law thought that they must rest on the Sabbath-day even from good works; whereas the law commands us to abstain from servile works, i.e. from evil, on the Sabbath. Hence it follows, ‘Then said Jesus to them, I ask you, Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath?’ (Saint Bede quoted by Saint Thomas Aquinas. Catena Aurea in Lk 6:6–11)

…judges Francis’ idea on Jesus asking forgiveness from his parents

  • Jesus does not blame his parents for seeking Him as their son, but compels them to raise the eyes of their mind

He blames them not that they seek Him as their son, but compels them to raise the eyes of their mind to what was rather due to Him whose eternal Son He was. Hence it follows, Knew you not? (Saint Bede the Venerable quoted by Saint Thomas Aquinas. Catena Aurea on Lk 2:42–50)

…judges Francis’ idea on Grace

  • Saint Matthew followed Our Lord moved by the interior impulse of grace

There is no reason for surprise that the tax collector abandoned earthly wealth as soon as the Lord commanded him. Nor should one be amazed that neglecting his wealth, he joined a band of men whose leader had, on Matthew’s assessment, no riches at all. Our Lord summoned Matthew by speaking to him in words. By an invisible, interior impulse flooding his mind with the light of grace, he instructed him to walk in his footsteps. In this way Matthew could understand that Christ, who was summoning him away from earthly possessions, had incorruptible treasures of heaven in his gift. (Saint Bede the Venerable. Homily 21 (CCL122, 149-151) – Second reading for the feast of St. Matthew, September 21)

…judges Francis’ idea on God’s love for sinners

  • Blasphemy is only pardoned to those who have gone through sufficient repentance for their sins

All sins and blasphemies are not indeed remitted to all men, but to those who have gone through a repentance in this life sufficient for their sins. (Saint Bede the Venerable quoted by Saint Thomas Aquinas. Catena Aurea on Mk 3:23-30)

…judges Francis’ idea that Koran is a book of peace

  • The perturbations on this earth show that the foundations of peace are constructed over sand

True peace, the only peace of souls in this world consists in being full of the love of God and encouraged by the hope of heaven, to the point of considering a small thing the success or losses of this world. […] They are mistaken who imagine that they may find peace in the enjoyment of the goods of this world and its riches. The frequent perturbations on this earth, and the end of this world should convince man that he has constructed his foundations of peace over sand. (Saint Bede the Venerable. Homilies, Book II. Homily 11, on the vigil of Pentecost: ML 94, 196-197)
  • The Saracens occupy a great part of Africa, Asia and of Europe, with hatred and opposition to all

“The Lord’s messenger said to her: ‘You are now pregnant and shall bear a son; you shall name him Ishmael, For the Lord has heard you, God has answered you. He shall be a wild ass of a man, his hand against everyone, and everyone’s hand against him; In opposition to all his kin shall he encamp’” (Gen 16: 11-12). This means that his descendents would live in the wilderness, that is, the roaming Saracens, and without fixed settlements, uniting themselves with all of the warring peoples in the dessert, they are combated by all, and this since the beginning. Now, great is their hand against all, and the hands of all against them, for they impose their dominion throughout Africa, occupying even a great part of Asia and of Europe, holding hatred and opposition to all. (Saint Bede the Venerable. Hexameron in principium Genesis, Commentary on Genesis, Book IV: PL 91, 159)
  • Gaul was laid waste by the Saracens with cruel bloodshed

In the year of our Lord 729, two comets appeared about the sun, to the great terror of the beholders. One of them went before the sun in the morning at his rising, the other followed him when he set in the evening, as it were presaging dire disaster to both east and west; or without doubt one was the forerunner of the day, and the other of the night, to signify that mortals were threatened with calamities at both times. They carried their flaming brands towards the north, as it were ready to kindle a conflagration. They appeared in January, and continued nearly a fortnight. At which time a grievous blight fell upon Gaul, in that it was laid waste by the Saracens with cruel bloodshed; but not long after in that country they received the due reward of their Unbelief. (Saint Bede the Venerable. Ecclesiastical History of England, Book 5, Ch. 23)

…judges Francis’ idea on human suffering

  • Mary had full certainty of the Resurrection

A sword is named the affection of the passion and death of the Lord, that pierced the soul of Mary: because not without a bitter sorrow could she contemplate him crucified and dying, even though she did not in any way doubt that he would resurrect from his death as God. Nevertheless, she terribly grieved the death of the one whom she had begotten of her flesh. (Saint Bede. Homily XV, In Purificatione Beatæ Mariæ. PL 94: 81-82)
  • Jesus cast out the merchants from the Temple signifying those who are externally among the good, and work hypocritically – their life and doctrine are reprobate

With a scourge then made of small cords, He cast them out of the temple; for from the part and lot of the saints are cast out all, who, thrown externally among the Saints, do good works hypocritically, or bad openly. The sheep and the oxen too He cast out, to show that the life and the doctrine of such were alike reprobate. And He overthrew the change heaps of the money-changers and their tables, as a sign that, at the final condemnation of the wicked, He will take away the form even of those things which they loved. The sale of doves He ordered to be removed out of the temple, because the grace of the Spirit, being freely received, should be freely given. (Saint Bede the Venerable quoted by Saint Thomas Aquinas. Catena Aurea in Jn 2:13-17)

…judges Francis’ idea on material charity

  • Alms are not only given in satisfying hunger

For not he alone gives alms who gives food to the hungry and things of that kind, but he also who gives pardon to the sinner, and prays for him, and reproves him, visiting him with some correcting punishment. (Saint Bede the Venerable. Cited in the Catena Aurea on the Gospel of Saint Luke, Lectio 11 – Lk 11:37-41)

Saint Bede Pray for Us.

Vatican controlled by Bergoglio's radical leftist agenda will contribute to abortion World Health Organization

Our Lady of La Salette: “Rome will lose the faith and become the seat of Antichrist

The Holy See will 'contribute to the WHO Emergency Fund for the supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to frontline medical workers.'

GENEVA, Switzerland, May 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – The Vatican has announced its intent “to contribute to the WHO Emergency Fund for the supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to frontline medical workers.” The World Health Organization (WHO) is part of the United Nations and supports both contraception and abortion.
During his remarks at the 73rd World Health Assembly this May, Archbishop Ivan Jurkovič, the Permanent Representative of the Holy See to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, pointed out that the Vatican “has already made various donations to the regions in need of urgent help.”

Additionally, “many religious orders, parishes and priests have been on the frontlines, caring for those who have been infected and their families.”
Ironically, the Vatican’s announcement to contribute to the WHO came only weeks after pro-life leaders praised President Donald Trump for halting funding to the international public health agency.

“This is a brilliant and brave move from President Trump,” commented John Smeaton, Director of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children. “Not only has the World Health Organisation been planning for years to promote abortion in a COVID-19-type pandemic, it has become abundantly clear even to the secular world that the WHO is serving the world’s most corrupt power structures rather than the common good.”

Jeff Gunnarson of Campaign Life Coalition in Canada said, “When a health organization that is designed to monitor the physical well being of the globe’s citizens but ignores the cries of the unborn, it’s critical that not only should they be defunded but shuttered.”
Archbishop Jurkovič concluded his brief remarks at the World Health Assembly “by relaying the fervent hope of Pope Francis that the heightened research motivated by the COVID-19 pandemic will be conducted ‘in a transparent and disinterested way, in order to find vaccines and treatments and to guarantee universal access to essential technologies that will enable every infected person, in every part of the world, to receive the necessary health care.’”
Neither the archbishop nor the Pope addressed the fact that at least several of the potential coronavirus vaccines currently in development are based on cell lines of aborted babies.
While the Vatican’s donation to the WHO Emergency Fund was specified as “for the supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to frontline medical workers,” some Catholics wonder how the Vatican can support the WHO at all, given its direct opposition to Church teaching on matters like abortion.
On its website, the WHO states, among other things, “Every woman has the recognized human right to decide freely and responsibly without coercion and violence the number, spacing and timing of their children and to have the information and means to do so, and the right to attain the highest standard of sexual and reproductive health (ICPD 1994). Access to legal and safe abortion is essential for the realization of these rights.”
The WHO “provides global technical and policy guidance on the use of contraception to prevent unintended pregnancy, safe abortion, and treatment of complications from unsafe abortion.”
The WHO also supports sex education programs that advise children be taught about masturbation from infancy.

In the past, the Vatican, which is not a member of the United Nations, but an observer, has been cautious about even symbolically supporting the organization’s efforts when they are in opposition to the Church’s doctrine.

In 1996, the Vatican announced that it “cannot offer any symbolic contribution to UNICEF,” the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund.
Archbishop Renato Martino, at the time the Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations, argued that suspending “the practice of making a symbolic contribution was the result of the Holy See’s increasing preoccupation with the changes in UNICEF’s activities which have begun to divert some of its already scarce economic and human resources from the care of the most basic needs of children to other areas outside of that specific mandate given by the United Nations to UNICEF.”
Martino specifically mentioned “[e]vidence of UNICEF involvement in advocacy to alter national legislation regarding abortion” and “credible reports that UNICEF workers in various countries were distributing contraceptives and counseling their use.”
Both concerns could also be addressed at the WHO, which is nevertheless now being supported by the Vatican.
Just last year, the Holy See declared it was not going to participate in “The Nairobi Summit on ICPD 25” on the 25th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD).
“The organizers’ decision, however, to focus the conference on a few controversial and divisive issues that do not enjoy international consensus and that do not reflect accurately the broader population and development agenda outlined by the ICPD, is regrettable,” the Vatican pointed out.
“The ICPD and its encompassing Programme of Action within the international community’s broad development agenda should not be reduced to so-called ‘sexual and reproductive health and rights’ and ‘comprehensive sexuality education.’”
Pope Francis himself has praised the United Nations in 2015 during his address to the General Assembly in New York.
“The praiseworthy international juridical framework of the United Nations Organization and of all its activities, like any other human endeavour, can be improved, yet it remains necessary; at the same time it can be the pledge of a secure and happy future for future generations,” the Pope said.
Pope Paul VI was the first Pope to speak to the General Assembly of the United Nations, followed by both Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict.
“I can only reiterate the appreciation expressed by my predecessors, in reaffirming the importance which the Catholic Church attaches to this Institution and the hope which she places in its activities,” Francis said in 2015.

The coronavirus pandemic has also raised questions about the WHO’s connections to the Communist regime in China.

US asks for abortion references to be removed from UN pandemic response plan.

Bergoglio’s suggestion COVID-19 caused by Earth’s anger is a ‘Epitome’ of ‘absurdity’

LifeSiteNews – A priest has contradicted Francis’s assertion that the coronavirus pandemic was caused, not by God, but by nature “having a fit.”

Coronavirus as Pachamama's Revenge Is "the Epitome of Absurdity"

The bishops were ready without hesitation to quarantine the Catholic religion worldwide. Father Linus Clovis wondered about this in his lecture for the online meeting of the "Rome Life Forum" last weekend. Clovis was even more worried by the speed with which the bishops denied that the coronavirus could be a divine punishment. For him, the assertion by Francis and other bishops that the virus is a response by Mother Earth to human exploitation, is the epitome of absurdity.

The Bishops Are Drowned in Atheism

The Roman historian Roberto de Mattei criticised at the Forum Archbishop Mario Delpini of Milan. Delpini had claimed that the idea of a divine punishment was "pagan". De Mattei retorted: "The belief that God does not punish makes one not a pagan but an atheist." Since many bishops around the world believe just that, the Catholic episcopate is largely submerged in atheism, said De Mattei. For him, this apostasy of the bishops is in itself a divine punishment.

After the Fall of the Wall, Marxism Spread to the West

Hell is neither closed nor empty, and the call of Fatima to save souls from eternal damnation through prayer and sacrifice is urgent. This is what Father Serafino Lanzetta said at the Forum. He added that the consecration of Russia called for in Fatima had not been carried out as Our Lady had wished. That is why Marxist ideology triumphed beyond the ruins of communism. Today Marxism is a worldwide ideology that wants to produce a new, conformist human being, whereby not even gender differences are allowed. This ideology has also been accepted in the Church, which has led to - quote Lanzetta: a "silent apostasy".

Mask Masses and Plastic Communion for Three and a Half Years?

LifeSiteNews.com editor-in-chief John Henry Westen referred the abolition of the public Mass due to the corona virus to the end times announced in Matthew 24. This chapter has references to the prophet Daniel, who predicted that the sacrifice would be abolished for 1290 days. Westen refers to the interpretation of this passage by Cardinal Bellarmin, who writes that Daniel speaks of the abolition of the "public" liturgy. The interpretation of the Corona crisis as fulfilment of the Daniel promise was already put forward by a Gloria.tv cartoon on March 22. However, Westen notes that Our Lady will triumph before the end of the world comes.

Mary Help of Christians and Padre Pio united to save a baby from a deadly virus

A Catholic family receives the arrival of their third child hopefully, but sadly he contracts a lethal virus. The newborn had three surgeries but the baby did not improve. Her desperate mother began to ask Padre Pio and the Virgin Mary for help, sure that they would listen. His parents could see him for only a few minutes during the day and through glass, a situation that further aggravated Silvia and her husband's pain. One day the Father went to visit his son with great sadness he sends him a kiss through the glass and goes to the exit door, looking down, and finds a stamp of the Virgin Mary Help of Christians. Something seemed strange because they always kept the hospital impeccably clean. He came back and asked a nurse to please put the stamp in the incubator where his son was. She kindly accepts your request. Upon leaving the hospital, the father felt an unusual serenity. He commented on what had happened to his wife and that same night she dreams of Padre Pio who, without speaking to her, only looked at her and smiled at her. The following day the parents were summoned by the doctors, who announced that their son had had inexplicably improved so much that in a few days he could be home with his other siblings.

The following year to thank Padre Pio for the miracle, the parents and the child went to visit the saint at San Giovanni Rotondo. When they arrive at the church, which is always full of the faithful; some volunteers without knowing them have them pass in front of all the people, to immediately arrive at the tomb of the saint.

At that moment an elderly Capuchin friar arrives, blesses the mother and takes the child in his arms saying: “Finally you brought me the child of the miracle, I thought I would never see him… and I would die without being able to give him a kiss and a special blessing. They made me wait so long, I was already worried. In any case, daughter, always pray and educate the child in the best possible way. He has a great mission in the world ”. Before saying goodbye, the friar gives the mother a medal, to put on the Child, asking him to never take it off, because he will always protect him throughout his life.

Arriving home the boy sees a stamp of Padre Pio, and begins to call him: "grandfather, grandfather." His mother affectionately explains that the man in the image was Padre Pio and not his grandfather, to which the boy corrected her: "No, it is the grandfather, grandfather Pio."

Letter from a Catholic Medical Doctor to His Bishop

RorateCaeli was given a copy of this moving letter, written by a Catholic medical doctor to his bishop, who has continued to uphold severe restrictions on Mass attendance and sacramental reception.

The Ascension of Our Lord
May 21st, 2020

Your Excellency,

Last Monday, I received a copy of the diocese’s letter regarding the opening of our churches as we enter the “yellow phase.” After being denied access to the Sacraments for two months, I cannot begin to tell you how absolutely heartbreaking the letter was to read.

What has happened these last two months, to our Church and Sacramental life, is a tragedy, and it is unacceptable. It is a grave mistake, however well-intentioned, to consider the closure of the Church and denial of access to the Sacraments to be a form of “charity.” No one is being forced to attend Mass, forced into a confessional, or forced to adore Our Lord—the very same Lord, in the Blessed Sacrament, as He before whom we will one day stand in judgment. If a person is frightened or vulnerable to illness, they have always had the option to stay home. The implication of your letter, that those of us who wish to attend The Holy Sacrifice during these times are somehow uncharitable, selfish, and inconsiderate of the safety of others, is an unjust characterization.

I am a physician and work almost exclusively with acute illness and injury. I understand better than most people the risks—whether real, imagined, or feared—of the coronavirus, as well as every other infectious disease that I encounter. More importantly, I am the father of five very young children. Knowing full well that I come in contact with COVID, influenza, RSV, C. diff, Syphilis, Zoster, and an untold number of other pestilent entities, should I quarantine myself out of “charity” to my family, for their own safety, to protect them from the dangers of this life? Should I wring my hands, bemoan my circumstances, and give them my love from six feet away through a plexiglass shield? What of my patients? I can’t order them to stay home out of concern that they could be exposed to illness. I can’t repair a child’s head wound through a Zoom meeting or replace a dislocated shoulder via Facebook Livestream.

As a father and husband, I cannot in times of crisis simply lock my doors and sequester myself. I can’t wave from the window and wish my children well while they stand in the elements outside, deprived of food, clothing, and shelter. I cannot deny them my presence while I allow the crisis to pass. I’m obligated to care for them. A bishop is the spiritual father of his diocese, tasked with the welfare of the souls of his flock. Regardless of intentions, every single bishop in our country has deprived his spiritual children from their primary source of nourishment!

It is frankly scandalous that I may go to Home Depot and the grocery store but may not enter a Catholic church. I may receive a bag of fast food at a drive-through window from the hands of a stranger but not Our Lord from the consecrated hands of a priest. I may wash my clothing at a public laundromat but not wash my soul in the confessional.

How long will this go on, and how far will things be allowed to go? What will you do this fall when the virus surges again? What will you do during future flu seasons? Will laymen stand alone when immorality is legislated; when the forces of the world rage against the faithful, against Christ and His Church; when a greater crisis than this one strikes (which is very easy to imagine)? What would the great English Martyrs say? What of the Cristero soldiers? St. Damien of Molokai? What of Pope John Paul II, who famously said “Open wide the doors for Christ!”?

From the beginning, religious institutions and places of worship have been exempt from the government-implemented mitigation measures. Believe me, I checked, many times. Our interdict comes entirely from ecclesiastical authorities, and unless I am mistaken, only you, dear bishop, may lift our restrictions. Please, let us return to Mass. Don’t set limits on church capacity or mandate masks.

Please, I beg you, open wide the doors of our churches, and may they never be closed again.

Sincerely,

(A Catholic Medical Doctor)
