The Money Connection between Cardinal Cupich and his Award Winner Durbin
Chicago's Cardinal Blase Cupich will honor pro-abortion Senator Dick Durbin with a Lifetime Achievement Award at a November 3, fundraiser for the Archdiocese of Chicago’s immigration ministry.
During the last week, nine bishops have publically rebuked Cardinal Cupich.
· Bishop Thomas Paprocki (Springfield): the decision “risks causing grave scandal.”
· Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone (San Francisco): “This is a source of great consternation and scandal.”
· Bishop James Conley (Lincoln): called it “deeply disappointing and confusing.”
· Bishop James Wall (Gallup): said it “creates confusion and division.”
· Bishop David Ricken (Green Bay): described it as “a grave mistake.”
· Bishop Carl Kemme (Wichita): “This award is inappropriate and scandalous.”
· Bishop Michael Olson (Fort Worth): warned it “sends the wrong message to the faithful.”
Cardinal Cupich has a long and friendly history with Senator Durbin.
According to StellaMaris.media, Durbin has helped the Chicago archdiocese financially.
Durbin is a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which controls how federal funds are allocated. In a staged and publicised phone call in 2020, Durbin pledged to help the financially troubled archdiocese.
Months later, his committee approved expanded relief for the pandemic that benefited the archdiocese. Catholic Charities received $1.4 billion nationally, including $8 million for Chicago — the largest affiliate award. The Chicago archdiocese also received $77 million in Paycheck Protection Programme funds, second only to Los Angeles.
Durbin has been barred from receiving Communion in the Springfield diocese since 2004, a ban that was reaffirmed in 2018.
After criticism from faithful bishops, Cupich is doubling down on honoring Sen. Dick Durbin, who has supported partial-birth abortion and LGBT ideology.
The bishops should also take this opportunity, given the politician's obstinance, to publicly declare that Sen. Dick Durbin is excommunicated.
Cupich: “Senator Durbin informed me some years ago that he had purchased a condo in Chicago, registered in a parish of the archdiocese and considers me to be his bishop.”

Blase Cupich, submitted his mandatory resignation letter to Bergoglio on his 75th birthday, March 19, 2024. But neither Bergoglio nor Prevost have accepted it.
