Bergoglio will defile the basilica of Bologna using it as public dining room

Francis will visit Bologna, Italy, on October 1. The official Vatican network news.va reports on Facebook that Pope Francis will dine with selected poor, refugees and disabled inside the Basilica of San Petronio.(en.news )

Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen:The third temptation in which Satan asked Christ to adore him and all the kingdoms of the world would be His, will become the temptation to have a new religion without a Cross, a liturgy without a world to come, a religion to destroy a religion, or a politics which is a religion one that renders unto Caesar even the things that are God's.

— 2 Thessalonians 2: 4 Who opposeth, and is lifted up above all that is called God, or that is worshipped, so that he sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself as if he were God.

Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen: “...The mystical body on earth today will have its Judas Iscariot and he will be the false prophet. Satan will recruit him from among our bishops.”

Filial Correction organizer warns of schism if errors aren’t corrected

Bergoglio: “I Might Go Down in History for Having Split the Catholic Church”

SANTIAGO, Chile, September 29, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) — The recent “filial correction” charging Pope Francis with permitting the spread of seven heresies, at least by omission, has provoked admiration and consternation among Catholics and drawn considerable attention in the secular media. But what led those who authored or contributed to the Correction to take such a rare and serious step?
We travelled to Santiago, Chile, where we had the opportunity for an in-depth interview with Professor Claudio Pierantoni, who is one of the lay scholars who helped shape the “filial correction.” Prof. Pierantoni, who was born in Rome, is currently a professor of Medieval Philosophy in the Philosophy Faculty of the University of Chile (Santiago). He has two PhDs: in the History of Christianity and in Philosophy.
In this extensive interview, we discuss the immediate trigger for the correction, namely the chaos following the apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia, the philosophical roots of the crisis, and why Professor Pierantoni describes the present situation as “apocalyptic.”

Francis Wrong Again: Amoris Laetitia Is Anything But Thomistic

en.news During a meeting with Jesuits in Colombia Pope Francis claimed that his controversial Amoris Laetitia is “the morality of the great Thomas”. Francis' remarks were published by La Civiltà Cattolica on September 28.

He suggested to ask questions about this to the “great theologian", Vienna Cardinal Schönborn, a relativist who has no expertise in Thomas' moral theology. Since 2016 several scholars, among them Michael Pakaluk of the Catholic University of America, have shown that Thomas Aquinas (+ 1274) is misquoted and misused in Amoris Laetitia.

One example is number 301. It insinuates that Thomas supports the idea that persons could become saints while at the same time acting contrary to some virtues. In reality, Thomas speaks about people who have repented past sins and keep the moral law, but do so with some difficulty.

Fatima Priest: “Jorge Bergoglio is incorrigible.”

Jorge Mario Bergoglio and Anastasio Gil
Father Paul Kramer wrote on Facebook:

Jorge Bergoglio is incorrigible.  What is necessary is not filial correction but inquisitional removal. To be corrected, one must be able to correct himself as a material heretic who innocently or to some extent guiltily professes false dogmas out of ignorance. A stubborn heretic due to the wickedness of pertinacity is incorrigible. Jorge Bergoglio is a heretic in the proper sense of the term: he not only professes errors against the faith, but clearly, manifestly and consciously REJECTS Catholic dogma. He is manifestly incorrigible, as was Arius. Almost all the bishops of the Latin Church did not recognize that Arius was a heretic; as almost all bishops today do not recognize that Bergoglio is a heretic.

Father Paul Kramer :

Bergoglio stated explicitly in no. 247 of Evangelii Gaudium the heresy that God's covenant with the Jews was never revoked. He already professed that heresy before changing his name to Francis:
On Heaven and Earth, pg 188:
"The Church officially recognizes that the People of Israel continue to be the Chosen People. Nowhere does it say: ‘You lost the game, now it is our turn.’ It is a recognition of the People of Israel."

''Bergoglio does not believe in God in the proper sense of professing the dogmatically defined nature and attributes of God. No wonder that he says he doesn"t believe in a Catholic God. He really does not even believe in the God we profess in the Catholic creeds.
"On Heaven and Earth", Chapter 3 - "On Atheists" :
"We can say what God is not ... but we cannot say what He is. I would classify as arrogant those theologies that ... had the pretense of saying who He was"

Fr. Gruner in October 2014: A Man Must be Catholic in Order to be Pope; Benedict did not validly Resign His Office.

St. Michael the Archangel guardian of the orthodox faith and a fighter against heresies, defend us in this hour of battle.

Saint Francis de Sales wrote that veneration of Michael is the greatest remedy against despising the rights of God and against insubordination to God's laws, skepticism and infidelity.

Daniel, 12: 1. “But at that time Michael will rise up, the great leader, who stands up for the sons of your people. And a time will come, such as has not been from the time that nations began, even until that time. And, at that time, your people will be saved, all who will be found written in the book.

St. Thomas says of St. Michael: Michael is the breath of the Redeemer’s spirit who will, at the end of the World, combat and destroy antichrist, as he did Lucifer in the beginning”

 Prayer for Perseverance
O God, Thou  hast made blessed Michael, Thy Archangel, victorious over the proud Lucifer and all the wicked spirits. We beseech Thee that, combating under the Cross and ever adopting his maxim, "Who is like unto God," we may be victorious over all our enemies, and be delivered from all evils. Regulate our lives according to Thy will and Commandments. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

St. Michael the Archangel,

defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen..

Socci on Bergoglio as “Jesus II”

St. Augustine once said, Pride does its

own will; humility does the will of God.”
“It was pride that changed angels into devils; it is humility that makes men angels.”

Written by  Christopher A. Ferrara
As the Filial Correction to which I am a signatory continues to gather support that now includes Bishop René Gracida, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Corpus Christi, Pope Bergoglio is facing an unprecedented display of opposition from “mainstream” Catholics who are awakening to the astounding debacle of this out-of-control papacy.

Antonio Socci gives a surprising new indication of just how out-of-control Bergoglio is in his column of September 24, entitled “What He Did He Wanted to Do as ‘Pope Jesus II’, the Demolitionist” (translation mine).  He begins by noting that in the just-published book-interview with Dominique Wilton, Bergoglio jokes that he chose the papal name Francis not as an act of superbia but rather of humility, because then “he would have been able to call himself ‘Jesus II’”—a reference to the common description of Saint Francis of Assisi as an alter Christus, “another Christ.” While this was only a joke, it was a very revealing one: the phrase “Jesus II” evinces an arrogant flippancy regarding both Our Lord and the great saint who is popularly likened to Him.

Socci believes that Bergoglio suffers from a dangerously acute case of that classically Argentinian egocentrism Bergoglio himself once remarked when he joked that an Argentinian commits suicide by throwing himself from the top of his ego.  This, writes Socci, is “a very big problem which a psychoanalyst attempted to resolve—futilely—years ago” (a reference to Bergoglio’s revelation to Wilton that he had undergone weekly psychoanalysis for six months with a Jewish psychiatrist). And this very big problem is immensely exacerbated by what Socci describes as “ego-latria in the form of a planetary papolatry.”

Bergoglio, says Socci, “seems to want to ‘re-found’ the Church and almost present himself precisely as ‘Pope Jesus II’”, who “pretends in fact to be more merciful than Christ” respecting those living in adulterous “second marriages” and dares to pursue what his collaborators exultantly characterize as “irreversible reform” of the Church.  But, Socci continues:

the Church belongs to Jesus Christ, not to the Pope.  The popes are only its temporary custodians, not its owners…. By definition, only the Law of God is “irreversible,” which is in Sacred Scripture and the constant Magisterium of the Church. The Popes are subject to that Law, they are not its masters. They must be like chauffeurs who bring the Bride (precisely the Church) to the encounter with the Bridegroom (Christ Himself).  If the chauffeur wants to appropriate the Bride to himself and… change the destination in an irreversible way, then he would be saying that he has substituted himself for the true Bridegroom.  As if he were a “Jesus II”…. ]

In fact, the mandate that Jesus gave to Peter and all his successors is not at all to ‘change’ the Church (much less in an ‘irreversible’ way) but—on the contrary—to ‘conserve’ her (to conserve the depositum fidei, confirming the brethren in the faith)…. The Pope—by definition—is only a ‘conservator,’ otherwise he is no longer the Pope.  His ministry is to preserve intact the faith of the Church. Not to make of her a woman out on the street at the mercy of the world.

This Pope, Socci maintains, is in the process of attempting to change the Church from a supernatural institution whose mission is to save souls into “a humanitarian agency which professes an entirely social and political religion, centered on mass immigration as the Summum Bonum, ecological catastrophism and an uncritical embrace of Islam.” What Bergoglio is attempting is precisely the destructive process foretold by the atheist philosopher Feuerbach, who predicted that the Church would (per impossible) be destroyed through “an irreversible transformation of Christianity into atheistic humanism, with the aid of Christians themselves, guided by a concept of charity that will have nothing to do with the Gospel.”

And now—here is Socci’s most startling observation—Bergoglio seems intent on finding a way to eliminate or at least decommission the Roman Curia and even the College of Cardinals, both deemed non-essential by his “right-hand man,” Archbishop (“the art of kissing”) “Tucho” Fernandez, whom Bergoglio made a titular archbishop of a titular see as one of his first acts. This would leave the way open, in “exceptional situations,” for Bergoglio to “name his own successor… rendering his revolution truly ‘irreversible.’”  Which possibility, believe it or not, Bergoglio “is having studied on the pages of canon law.”

By the way, whatever happened to the Humble Pope narrative with which this pontificate began?  Perhaps the promoters of this con job on the Bergoglian PR team and their allies in the media have recognized that it has become too absurd to fool anyone except those who insist on being conned.

Is it possible, as Socci suggests, that we have underestimated the extent of the Bergoglian Debacle?  God help us.  God help His Holy Catholic Church.  And may God deliver us and the Church from a Pope who is increasingly revealing himself to be—one must say what has become obvious—a clear and present danger to the Faith.

Gay-Lobby Politician Writes Preface to Francis’ Book

en.news The controversial Italian Minister of Education, Valeria Fedeli, wrote the preface to Pope Francis' book Imparare ad imparare [Learning to learn] which is released on September 28.

Fedeli is one of the most ideological leftwing supporters of gender and gay ideology in Italian politics. Her nomination as Minister in 2016 was hailed by the gay lobby. In December 2016 Fedeli was accused of presenting in her biography academic titles which she never achieved.

A “filial correction” of Bergoglio “for the Propagation of Heresies” issued by 62 Catholic scholars

“Filial correction” of Pope Francis issued by 62 Catholic scholars

September 23,Voice of the Family welcomes the “filial correction“, which has been made public today by 62 Catholic scholars “on account of the propagation of heresies effected by the apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia and by other words, deeds and omissions” of Pope Francis. This “filial correction”, originally signed by 40 Catholic priests and lay scholars, was delivered to Pope Francis on 11th August but, as the pope did not respond or issue a clarification of his teaching, the signatories have decided to make the document public.
Prominent signatories include writer Martin Mosebach, psychiatrist Gerard van den Aardweg, and well-known academics such as professors Msgr Antonio Livi, Roberto de Mattei and Thomas Stark. The scholars were also pleased to accept the recent addition of the signature of Bishop Bernard Fellay, Superior General of the Society of St Pius X.
The signatories, while acknowledging that they “do not have the right to issue… that form of correction by which a superior coerces those subject to him” assert their right to issue a correction of the heresies propagated by Pope Francis on the grounds of the natural law, the law of Christ and the law of the Church:
  • by natural law subjects have “a duty to obey their superiors in all lawful things” and “so they have a right to be governed according to law, and therefore to insist, where need be, that their superiors so govern.”
  • by the law of Christ, as St Thomas taught, “if the faith were endangered, a subject ought to rebuke his prelate even publicly”, as St Paul corrected St Peter “on account of the imminent danger of scandal concerning faith” (ST II:II q. 33 a.4)
  • by the law of the Church, as stated in Canon 212 of the Code of the Canon Law which states that “Christ’s faithful” have “the right, and at times the duty… to manifest to the sacred pastors their views on matters which concern the good of the Church.”
The correction clearly outlines both the extent and the limits of the papal infallibility and teaching authority and identifies the disastrous consequences of heresies found in Pope Francis’s teaching going unanswered. The scholars are issuing the correction in order to:
“protect our fellow Catholics – and those outside the Church, from whom the key of knowledge must not be taken away (cf Lk. 11:52) – hoping to prevent the further spread of doctrines which tend of themselves to the profaning of all  the sacraments and the subversion of the law of God.”

They proceed to specify the passages of Amoris Laetitia, and other words and actions of Pope Francis, which provide grounds for correction. They then identify seven heretical propositions that are propagated by the aforesaid words and actions. The signatories “do not venture to judge the degree of awareness with which Pope Francis has propagated these heresies” but they do “respectfully insist that he condemn these heresies, which he has directly or indirectly upheld.”

The text of the correction gives these heretical propositions only in Latin, in order to assure the greatest possible clarity and avoid confusion regarding translations. An English translation, provided by the signatories, is as follows:
1). ‘A justified person has not the strength with God’s grace to carry out the objective demands of the divine law, as though any of the commandments of God are impossible for the justified; or as meaning that God’s grace, when it produces justification in an individual, does not invariably and of its nature produce conversion from all serious sin, or is not sufficient for conversion from all serious sin.’
2). ‘Christians who have obtained a civil divorce from the spouse to whom they are validly married and have contracted a civil marriage with some other person during the lifetime of their spouse, who live more uxorio with their civil partner, and who choose to remain in this state with full knowledge of the nature of their act and full consent of the will to that act, are not necessarily in a state of mortal sin, and can receive sanctifying grace and grow in charity.’
3). ‘A Christian believer can have full knowledge of a divine law and voluntarily choose to break it in a serious matter, but not be in a state of mortal sin as a result of this action.’
4). ‘A person is able, while he obeys a divine prohibition, to sin against God by that very act of obedience.’
5). ‘Conscience can truly and rightly judge that sexual acts between persons who have contracted a civil marriage with each other, although one or both of them is sacramentally married to another person, can sometimes be morally right or requested or even commanded by God.’
6). ‘Moral principles and moral truths contained in divine revelation and in the natural law do not include negative prohibitions that absolutely forbid particular kinds of action, inasmuch as these are always gravely unlawful on account of their object.’
7). ‘Our Lord Jesus Christ wills that the Church abandon her perennial discipline of refusing the Eucharist to the divorced and remarried and of refusing absolution to the divorced and remarried who do not express contrition for their state of life and a firm purpose of amendment with regard to it.’
The document concludes with an elucidation of the influence of the heresies of Modernism and Lutheranism on the words and actions of Pope Francis, demonstrating the profound contradiction that exists, on certain specific occasions, between his teaching and that of the Catholic Church.
Voice of the Family hopes that this correction, by 62 respected figures, will assist many more men and women of good will to recognise the gravity of the crisis now afflicting the Church, and the See of Peter, and will move us to strive more ardently for the defence of the Catholic faith and to pray more insistently to Our Lady for the hastening of the Triumph of Her Immaculate Heart.

62 Clerics and Catholics Scholars: Francis Is A Heretic

Francis accused of propagating heresy
62 Clerics and Scholars: Francis has effectively upheld 7 heretical positions about marriage.

en.news 62 clerics and scholars published on Sunday a 25-page correction of Pope Francis’ Amoris Laetitia. Its title is “A filial correction concerning the propagation of heresies”.

The letter states that Francis upholds seven heretical positions about marriage, the moral life and the reception of the sacraments. For the signees it is “beyond reasonable doubt” that Francis wishes Catholics to interpret controversial passages of Amoris Laetitia in a heretical way.

The letter denounces the influence of Martin Luther on Francis and notes “the explicit and unprecedented praise given by Pope Francis to the German heresiarch”. Twitter User “Rorate Caeli” has learned that no cardinals were asked to sign the letter.

The highest ranking signee of the declaration is Bishop Bernard Fellay, the superior general of SSPX. Many active priests and professors were advised not to sign because of the present climate of persecution against Catholics inside the Church.

Bishop Schneider: God needs the ‘simple faithful’ to protect the faith in this time of crisis.

‘Correctio filialis de haeresibus propagatis’

‘A filial correction concerning the propagation of heresies’).

heresiarch

1. one who propagates heresy.

n.

One who originates or is the chief proponent of a heresy or heretical movement.

[Late Latin haeresiarcha, from Late Greek hairesiarkhēs : Greek hairesis, sect; see heresy + Greek -arkhēs, -arch.]

Council of Trent

  • Whoever publicly asserts that one may receive communion in mortal sin is excommunicated

If anyone says that faith alone is sufficient preparation for receiving the sacrament of the most Holy Eucharist: let him be anathema. And that so great a Sacrament may not be unworthily received, and therefore unto death and condemnation, this holy Council ordains and declares that sacramental confession must necessarily be made beforehand by those whose conscience is burdened by mortal sin, however contrite they may consider themselves. If anyone moreover teaches the contrary or preaches or obstinately asserts, or even publicly by disputation shall presume to defend the contrary, by that fact itself he is excommunicated. Bergoglio refuses to dialogue and he doesn't listen why scientist disagree about global warming.

Written by  Elizabeth Yore  | The Remnant

The Pope of Dialogue has thus far slammed the bronze doors of St. Peter’s on any dialogue on the issue of global warming. (Many Catholics argue that everything else is up for dialogue with this Pope, though).

Despite his incessant rantings about the need to dialogue, climate change is off limits. In the words of his global warming maestro, Bishop Sanchez Sorondo, climate change is elevated to “magisterium,” deserving of an apostolic exhortation and papal endorsement of the globalists’ precious Paris Climate Treaty. Francis joined the globalist cop-out chorus of the “science is settled.” His global warming architect, Bishop Sorondo scolds the global warming doubters “saying that we need to rely on coal and oil is like saying that the earth is not round. It is an absurdity dictated by the need to make money.” Sorondo also repeats the lame classic globalist slam that the deniers are funded by the oil industry.

Wake up, there is simply no dialogue with this Vatican on any issue, not endorsed by the United Nations’ globalists and its bureaucrats.

In April 2015, the Heartland Institute, a free-market think tank located in Chicago, which refutes the political agenda of human-caused global warming, sent a delegation of experts to the Vatican to try to present the Pope with the other more scientific view on climate change. As a member of that delegation,  I saw first hand and learned that this Pope had no interest in dialoguing about man caused global warming. Francis and his Vatican had no time for the highly credentialed Heartland experts, who ranged from NASA scientists who put men on the moon to MIT scientists, climatologists and global climate science experts.

Nevertheless, Francis chose not to dialogue.

After all, Francis would rather listen to a globalist political hack, like UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon. Despite his pontificating about the importance of dialogue, the pontiff’s mind was already decided having listened to population control/global warming proponents, as non scientist Jeffrey Sachs, non scientist Naomi Klein and Hans “the population of the world should be only 1 billion people” Schellnhuber, to name just a few.  Creepily, the Vatican dialogue doors were only open to population control greenies.

One of the Heartland Delegation members, E. Calvin Beisner, founder of the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation also launched an Open Letter to Pope Francis endorsed by over 100 scientists and theologians. The Letter urged the Pope that climate change models “provide no rational basis to forecast dangerous human-induced global warming, and therefore no rational basis for efforts to reduce warming by restricting the use of fossil fuels or any other means.”

Nevertheless, Francis chose again not to dialogue.

A few months later, along came his rambling eco encyclical, Laudato Si, which called Catholics to a new environmental conversion and environmental spiritualism. The 191 page apostolic exhortation included a collective mish-mash of new age sentimentality, polluted with an anti capitalism rant, and faux Ehrlichian predictive catastrophes (LS#24). Francis managed to sink to an all-time theological low by calling for the reduction of air conditioners in a papal encyclical. (LS#55) You just can’t make this stuff up!

Since the 2015 Heartland Delegation, the Pope has gone on his merry way issuing his Laudato Si, speaking at the UN in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and the ParisClimate Treaty. Francis and Barack Obama hugged the same global warming tree and to the Pope’s delight Obama signed the Paris Climate Treaty.

End of the climate change debate? Hardly....

Along comes out of the deep blue sky, Donald Trump who doesn’t share the Pope’s view on climate change and nullifies the Paris Climate Change Treaty obligations of the U.S.

The Pope is not pleased that his newly fashioned moral doctrine of man caused global warming is not shared by the most powerful man in the world. In fact, Francis seems downright irritated that his best laid plans hatched with the elite Population Control elites at the UN were stymied by this upstart global warming sceptic, Donald Trump.

Francis is turning up his rhetorical heat about the climate deniers, using hardly papal persuasion or propriety. In his most recent infamously morally treacherous 30,000 feet airplane press conferences, the Pope sounding like Paul Ehrlich, the disproved Population Bomb predictor:

To the North Pole, you could go. It’s very, very clear. When that news came from a university, I don’t remember from where, another came out that said, ‘We only have three years to turn back, otherwise the consequences will be terrible.’ I don’t know if three years is true or not, but if we don’t turn back we’re going down, that’s true.”
Unfortunately for the Pope, the Heartland Institute is persistent and fearless about defending the truth and still wants to engage the Pope in a dialogue about the science of global warming. The Heartland Institute’s new President Tim Huelskamp, former Congressman from Kansas, is not one to shy away from a controversial issue. Tim is used to battling for conservative causes in Congress, so he does not take lightly the scathing papal attack on scientists who doubt man caused global warming.  Huelskamp, a faithful Catholic immediately responded on twitter to the papal comments:
surprisetruth about climate changedialogue and respect
Francis no longer enjoys a climate change free ride with Donald Trump in the White House and Tim Huelskamp at the Heartland Institute.  Tim wisely decided to challenge the Pope’s unrelenting boast to “dialogue.”  In a most powerful and persuasive request to the Pope, Huelskamp writes to Francis:
“As a fellow Catholic, it is disappointing to hear you, once again promote the unfounded claims of climate alarmists, like Al Gore and put the enormous moral weight of your position behind bad science. This only sows confusion among many in your flock who might find it morally challenging to question the Holy Father in any matter. Since this is a question of science, not faith and morals, it is only right to offer a respectful challenge.”

Don’t hold your breath for an answer. Francis will respond to your offer to dialogue, as he did to the Dubia with utter silence and disdain.

Finally, Francis mused on the plane press conference about how history will judge the science of climate change:

I would say: everyone has their own moral responsibility, first. Second, if one is a bit doubtful that this is not so true, let them ask the scientists. They are very clear. They are not opinions on the air, they are very clear. And then let them decide, and history will judge their decisions.”

Of this, Francis is correct. History and God will judge his decisions. In the meantime, do yourself a favor and learn from some real scientists about the truth of climate change:

Bergoglio welcomes to Vatican the head of Muslim group tied to financing of jihad terror

By
“Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa…expressed the appreciation of the Muslim world for the pope’s ‘fair positions’ regarding ‘the false claims that link extremism and violence to Islam,’ as well as for his insistence that extremism is not distinctive of Islam but is found among followers of all religions.”
In other words, he thanked the Pope for dissembling about the motivating ideology of jihad terror, which his group has been accused of financing, and for defaming other religions in an effort to whitewash Islam.

“Despite the group’s official opposition to violence and terrorism and its pursuit of intercultural dialogue, it has been the subject of several ongoing counterterrorism investigations in the U.S. related to Hamas, al Qaeda and other terrorist groups.”

Has the Pope met with any of the survivors of the Muslim persecution of Christians?
Let me be clear: I don’t object to the Pope’s meeting this man. After all, Jesus was a friend of tax collectors and sinners. But the meeting appears to have been a pointless feelgood session, probably featuring some sly dawah from al-Issa: “the two men reportedly exchanged views on a number of ‘issues of common interest’ including peace and global harmony, and discussed cooperation on issues of peaceful coexistence and the spread of love.”
The spread of love. Yes, that’s what the Muslim World League is all about.
“Leave them; they are blind guides. And if a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.” (Matthew 15:14)

Pope Francis Welcomes Leader of Muslim World League to Vatican,” by Thomas D. Williams, Breitbart, September 21, 2017:

Pope Francis met with the secretary general of the Muslim World League (MWL) in the Vatican Wednesday, a group that has been tied to Saudi financing of jihadist terrorism and the 9/11 attacks in 2001.
Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, who served for several years as Saudi minister of justice in Riyadh and is now secretary general of the MWL, expressed the appreciation of the Muslim world for the pope’s “fair positions” regarding “the false claims that link extremism and violence to Islam,” as well as for his insistence that extremism is not distinctive of Islam but is found among followers of all religions.
The Muslim World League is a Saudi Government-funded Islamic non-governmental organization, founded on May 18, 1962 in Mecca for the propagation of Islamic teachings. Despite the group’s official opposition to violence and terrorism and its pursuit of intercultural dialogue, it has been the subject of several ongoing counterterrorism investigations in the U.S. related to Hamas, al Qaeda and other terrorist groups.
Two months after the 9/11 jihadist attacks on U.S. soil, Newsweek writer Evan Thomas reported that the Muslim World League was one of “two interrelated global charities” directly funded by the Saudi government that were used by Osama bin Laden to finance his operations. The organizations were left off the list of groups sanctioned by the United States “in order to avoid embarrassing the Saudi government,” Thomas wrote.
In 2004, Harper’s Magazine declared that the Muslim World League had been “long known to have funneled money to Al Qaeda” and is financed directly by the Saudi government. “MWL is an evangelical organization that was created to help spread Wahhabism, the Saudi brand of Islamic fundamentalism,” the article stated.
According to the New York Times, an internal, top-secret report from the Treasury Department obtained through the Freedom of Information Act stated that the International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO), “an offshoot of the Muslim World League,” supported terrorist organizations beginning in the early 1990s “through to at least the first half of 2006.”
The MWL has also come under fire for its alleged anti-Semitism and the Anti-Defamation League claims that the MWL has frequently been a platform for anti-Israeli rhetoric. It has also been accused of using its English-language “Journal” to spread anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.
At their first International Islamic Conference on Dialogue in Mecca in 2008, the MWL invited Yusuf al-Qaradawi to speak. During his speech, he said he would “never sit with Jews on one platform and never hold dialogue with those Jews who have committed injustice against us and support Israel.”
On Tuesday, Al-Issa spoke at an international conference in Rome on “Tolerance in Islam” along with Joseph Levi, the former chief rabbi in Florence, and Bishop Miguel Ángel Ayuso Guixot, secretary of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.
For his audience with the Pope, Al-Issa was accompanied by a delegation of seven people. The Vatican released a series of photographs of the encounter, during which the two men reportedly exchanged views on a number of “issues of common interest” including peace and global harmony, and discussed cooperation on issues of peaceful coexistence and the spread of love….
