en.news Cardinal Raniero Cantalamessa quoted in his March 26 Lenten Sermon to Francis and the Roman Curia the “great historian” Jaroslav Pelikan (+2006), an American Lutheran pastor who later in life became Orthodox.
Cantalamessa parroted approvingly Pelikan's claim that "tradition is the living faith of the dead - that is, the faith of the fathers that I continue to live. Traditionalism is the dead faith of the living."
"I repeat. Tradition is the living faith of the dead and traditionalism is the dead faith of the living."
In real life, those churches which Cantalamessa would brush off as "traditionalist," are full of life, future, children, families and vocations, while Cantalamessa’s "living tradition" is a synonym for departing from tradition. Video
Cantalamessa's anti catholicism
This is not the place to do a historical review. I merely want to point out what seems to me the path that leads away from this unfortunate situation about Mary. That path includes an honest recognition of the fact that often, especially in the recent centuries, we Catholics have contributed to making Mary unacceptable to Protestants by honoring her in ways that are often exaggerated and ill-advised and above all by not keeping devotion to her clearly within a biblical framework that demonstrates her subordinate role with respect to the Word of God, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus himself. Mariology in recent centuries has become a non-stop factory of new titles, new devotions, often in polemic against Protestants, sometimes using Mary—our common Mother!—as a weapon against them. ☠ December 18, 2015
Francis's heretic preacher for the retirement of US bishops condemns riches, keeps silent about homosexuality or abuse
Note that Bergoglio and his accomplice Cantalamessa share the same heresy and apostasy.
"In 1980, this same Fr. Cantalamessa was appointed by Pope John Paul II as Preacher to the Papal Household."
In his 2002 Good Friday sermon at St. John Lateran Basilica, Cantalamessa claimed that false religions "are not merely tolerated by God ... but positively willed by Him." Francis reiterated the controversial teaching in his document on "Human Fraternity," signed with Grand Imam Ahmed al-Tayyeb.
