Oscar Romero’s marxist Last Homily
San Salvador, March 24, 1980, at 5:00 pm, in the Chapel of the Hospital of Divine Providence
“Because of the manifold relationships that I have had with the editor of the newspaper El Independiente, I have asked to share both his filial feelings on the anniversary of the death of his mother, and above all, that noble spirit that was Mrs. Sarita, who put all her educated upbringing, all her graciousness at the service of a cause that is now so necessary: the true liberation of our people”.
Romero celebrated Mass for the first anniversary of the death of Sara Meardi de Pinto, the mother of Jorge Pinto, publisher and editor of El Independiente, a weekly leftist newspaper.
